The Rohtang Pass is the first of three 4000m+ passes along the road to Ladakh. Along an ancient trade route, it connects the Kullu Valley to the higher altitude arid Lahaul and Spiti valleys and provides a natural divide between the primarily Hindu culture to the south and the largely Buddhist to the north.
